Bleker supports sustainability approach dairy chain

State Secretary for Agriculture Henk Bleker supports the manner in which the dairy industry is becoming sustainable. At the global dairy industry convention that took place in Parma this week, Bleker endorsed the sustainability agenda of international dairy organisation IDF, of which the Dutch Dairy Association (Nederlandse Zuivel Organisatie – NZO) is also a part. In a statement which was released today during the dairy industry convention, Bleker congratulated the approach of the dairy industry.


DOC sustainability: not a slogan, but action

FrieslandCampina supports and promotes sustainability

Dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina has developed a sustainability programme in the past year. From January 2012 FrieslandCampina will support dairy farmer members, promoting the further development of sustainability of their business. Study groups and knowledge exchange form the heart of FrieslandCampina’s sustainability programme. In addition, grazing will be promoted by financial legislation.


Responsible use of veterinary medicines

The Sustainable Dairy Chain believes the responsible use of veterinary medicines is vital for sustainable milk production. That is why dairy companies have the desire to include the requirement of a company health plan in their terms of delivery. This plan is compiled with a sponsored vet. This plan must consider the target values which have been compiled by the Animal Drug Authority with regards to the use of antibiotics, among other things.


Rouveen Simply Sustainable

On 14 September the Rouveen Gewoon Duurzaam (Rouveen Simply Sustainable) project was officially launched at the Coöperatieve Zuivelfabriek Rouveen (Cooperative Dairy Factory in Rouveen). Workshops about sustainable business make up a part of the programme. Dairy farmers who are members of the Cooperative Dairy Factory in Rouveen have the opportunity to learn what the advantages of a sustainable policy are and which opportunities it offers for their own economic balance, animals and land.
